Cornwall Refuge Trust - Volunteers

Local Area
Countywide (all of Cornwall)
Role description

Cornwall Refuge Trust provides refuge accommodation for women, men and children who have escaped domestic abuse, offering them a safe and supportive environment in which to recover from their experiences.

Volunteer with us

You can help victims of domestic abuse get back on their feet and move on with their lives! We need reliable, friendly and enthusiastic people to help with befriending, helpline, cleaning, refuge or fundraising work. We have a number of roles available:

Refuge Support Volunteers:
We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible volunteers who would like to be part of a team supporting victims of domestic abuse in a residential setting. This can be a varied, challenging and rewarding role which can include: answering phones, office administration; play sessions; accompanying to appointments and much more, depending on individual skills and confidence. As an organisation, we work hard to support our volunteers to work to their own strengths while they volunteer to support staff, residents and children in a residential setting.

Other volunteer roles are also available. We are also hoping to provide volunteer outreach support when residents move out of refuge to support ex-residents and families in their new home and community and link them into other services.

Helpline Volunteers:
We are looking for capable volunteers to answer a domestic abuse telephone helpline in addition to other duties supporting victims of domestic abuse in a residential setting. This role is office-based and during normal office hours. Full training and support will be given, however, previous experience in a support role or telephone support would help. This can be a varied, challenging and rewarding role and additional duties can include: office administration; play sessions; accompanying to appointments and much more, depending on individual skills, confidence and preferences. As an organisation, we work hard to support our volunteers to work to their own strengths.

Befriending Volunteers:
We are looking for volunteers who can give some time to provide befriending support to men  and women who have experienced domestic abuse. The role will involve supporting clients by taking them out for pre-agreed activities such as going for walks or coffee etc. There will be funds to cover the costs of these activities. The aims are to build up the client’s confidence and self esteem, and reduce their social isolation. Volunteers will need to be available for a minimum of 2 hours a week. Support and training will be given.

Refuge Housekeeper Volunteers:
We are looking for someone who is happy to do regular cleaning duties and maintain standards in a residential house supporting victims of domestic abuse. You will be part of a wider team of staff and volunteers supporting this service.
