Role description

Where the job is:

The Meals On Wheels service operates from The Wesley Centre, which is based within the ‘Community Centre’ at the rear of Camborne Wesley Methodist Church, on Chapel Street, in Camborne Town centre.

The hours of work:

You tell us when you are available. This can be several times a week or once a month and anything in-between.

Meals on Wheels drivers/deliverers begin work at approximately 11.30am and work through to approximately 1.30m (until the last meal is delivered and the thermal meal box is returned to The Wesley Centre), Monday to Friday. We do not open on ‘Bank Holidays’.

Volunteers are needed each day.  Following your training (shadowing), a round is allocated to you on a daily basis and is arranged dependant on your availability. Being reliable and committed to the role is an important factor of this work.

The work:

You must have access to and drive a car.  All volunteers will be working as part of a small and supportive team, working alongside the kitchen and admin staff. Office support during your round is available via telephone.

Duties include:

  • To be responsible for the delivery of between 8 and 12 meals, to individuals who are living within the wider community – within a 3-mile radius of The Wesley Centre.
  • To be able to plan the delivery of the meals (with support and guidance) in the most efficient manner as possible to ensure meals are received by the service users on time and in a good state.
  • Being responsible for delivering money back to the office on behalf of the individual service users if given to you during your round.

What will be provided:

A DBS check will be carried out prior to the role beginning, in line with safeguarding procedures and policies in operation within The Wesley Centre.  You will be required to attend a Safeguarding course, that is provided by the Methodist Church, to help workers to protect vulnerable service users and yourself.

All training will be provided – via shadowing opportunities prior to going out on your own meals on wheels round. You will also need to complete Safeguarding training to keep yourself and our customers safe.

An I.D. badge will be provided.

Travel expenses will be reimbursed – this is at a rate of 45p per mile to and from your home address to The Wesley Centre, and 45p for all miles done while meals are being delivered. This is paid on a quarterly basis (unless otherwise agreed in advance).
