Mencap - Activities and Hobbies Volunteer

Local Area
Restormel (Newquay, Clays & St Austell & in between)
Role description

Are you passionate about supporting people with a learning disability to do the things they love?

We are looking for one or two volunteers who are happy to get out and about in the local community supporting the fun loving people living in the Lostwithiel area of Cornwall. The people we support have many interest and enjoy lots of variety so there will always be plenty to do like; exploring the area, going to the beach, grabbing a coffee and having a chat, or enjoying a knit and natter just to name a few!

As a volunteer you would not need to be a coffee aficionado or Cornwall’s next tour guide, just willing to bring enthusiasm and fun.

For this role, you need to be:

  • Over 18 years of age
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Good at communicating and listening
  • Able to volunteer fortnightly - we can be very flexible to when suits you
  • Reliable and patient
  • Interested in others
  • Accepting of others who might be different to yourself
  • Willing to volunteer within guidelines and to take direction where necessary

For this role you will also need to provide two character references, and we will need to create a DBS check for you.

Mencap are strongly encouraging all our colleagues to have the Covid-19 vaccine as a way to help protect each other and the people we support.  This is especially important in direct support roles as evidence is starting to grow that the vaccine could help stop the spread of the virus, as well as protecting the person vaccinated from getting very ill.

In addition, it is mandatory that you take a lateral flow test on the day of your volunteering.

 You can apply by either:

  • Downloading an application form by clicking on the Additional Information tab. Completing the form and emailing it to volunteering@mencap.org.uk
  • Applying online by clicking the Apply tab. Please note that you need to register first before you apply. You can find application instructions by clicking the Additional Information tab.
