Role description

Singing for the Brain Volunteer

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll work within a team of volunteers, with the support of a member of staff, to help deliver a singing group for people living with dementia. Some of the practical activities you will be required to help with is room set up i.e. putting up tables and chairs and tidying up at the end of the session, preparing and serving refreshments, chatting with those attending the group, handing out song books and instruments.

Truro Singing for the Brain meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month 2pm -3.30pm

 You’ll enjoy this if:

You don’t need to be a great singer just be prepared to take part.

This role will suit you if you:

  • Are friendly and caring with good verbal communication skills. 
  • Enjoy volunteering as part of a team and meeting new people 
  • Have a knowledge of or be willing to learn about dementia and how it affects people living with the condition. 

 How your time will make a difference:

You’ll enable people affected by dementia to participate in singing and musical activities in a social setting. Your support at the group will aim to reduce social isolation and contribute to the wellbeing of people affected by dementia.

 What you need to know:

We need to ensure that people living with dementia who benefit from our services are safe. In order for us to do this we interview, check and train our volunteers in on-going roles. If you have an accessibility need we’ll make reasonable adjustments to enable you to volunteer.
