Befriender / Buddy
We are working to support a number of care and nursing homes across Cornwall and would really appreciate volunteers to go in and visit the residents and have a chat. Bear in mind that many residents don't receive regular visits or any at all so you could be a friendly face they're happy to see. Volunteering isn't just about chatting to the elderly, the care homes appreciate help in other capacities too, such as helping in the garden with weeding or making a bird box or how about helping in the kitchen with the washing up or if you're making a cake that week - why not make an extra and take it in to your local care home, you can chat to the residents as you serve it up with a cup of tea.
What to do next if I'm keen to help
Go to our website https://carenowvolunteers.org and register your interest in volunteering, we will contact you and talk about where you might like to volunteer from our list of local opportunities and how many hours you would like to help. We will organise your DBS check for free and then organise a visit to the home you're keen to help to have a look around.
How often will I need to volunteer?
You get to volunteer as regularly as you like! You might only have time for an hour a week after work or you might like to help for 4 hours on a Sunday. If the home is having a fundraiser day once every few months then you might like to only help out on those days on the tea and coffee stall! It's completely up to you - the homes will be so grateful for anything you can do for them.
