Seed Sowing, Planting, Picking & Packing
As we enter into the 2023 growing season we currently have lots of seeds to sow in the shelter of our polytunnels on Tuesdays. This is careful, repetitive work, you will be trained and will need to follow instructions to sow the seeds correctly and to label the seed trays. Our Tuesday team are a lovely small group of independent volunteers who start at 10am stopping for a tea break at 11am and a hot communal vegetarian lunch at 1pm. Most people stay until 3:30 or 4pm. As the season progresses there will be other tasks to do but we try to accommodate people's preferences for indoor vs outdoor work.
On Thursdays we harvest, weigh and pack our produce into veg boxes ready for deliveries. This a busy day of the week on the farm which makes for a sociable team experience. Most of the team are outdoors harvesting (welly boots and waterproofs are recommended and we can help provide) and a few are in the packing shed weighing and packing. We also host international volunteers as part of the WWOOF scheme so there are often opportunities for a cultural exchange meeting people from other countries over lunch.
Our farm also has volunteer opportunities for delivery drivers (Fridays), shop assistants (Mon-Sat), chicken-care (daily, esp Wednesdays), conservation and tree-planting (Sunday afternoons), catering & hospitality (daily, esp Tues & Thur) and general farm labouring (Tues & Thurs).
Whether you are a semi-retired professional helping to plant trees on Sundays; a graduate looking to gain work experience in horticulture or a school group helping to sow seeds, we all form part of the climate solution here at Bosavern.
