Outdoor Experience Volunteers
Cotehele is an atmospheric Tudor house with Medieval roots, a working mill on an historic quay, a glorious garden with valley views and an expansive estate. Cotehele has a team of almost 300 volunteers that help as many people as possible to utilise and benefit from this place.
You could be one of our multi-tasking superstar’s mobile on-site to ensure our presentation, safety standards and conversations are delivering great service. As the first point of contact on Cotehele Quay or a friendly face on the wider estate, you will be pivotal in providing a welcoming environment that leaves a lasting impression.
By getting involved, you could…
• Become part of a friendly and dedicated team
• Meet people from all walks of life and form new friendships
• Share your interest and knowledge about the Cotehele House, estate, Quay, Mill and Shamrock with visitors
• Work outdoors
• Build your confidence and experience
• Share your enthusiasm and passion for what we do
We are a unique charity welcoming millions of people each year and with a vision to open up places for the benefit of everyone, for ever.
What’s involved?
• Providing a warm, welcoming and friendly approach to all our visitors
• Being an ambassador for the property as you move around Cotehele Quay, engaging in conversations with out supporters, informing them of current projects and assisting them wherever possible
• Noticing and sharing property highlights or activities
• Litter picking and emptying bins
• Ensuring the quay and estate is looking at its best, checking and cleaning signage where necessary
• Play a key role in ensuring our whole operation is smooth, slick and pleasant along the whole visitor journey from arrival to departure.
• Checking that the car park machine is operational, reporting faults and ensuring the machine is clean from dirt. Where necessary, assisting visitors with use.
• Enabling access to the river, ensuring no unauthorized vehicles drive onto the quay and that users carry equipment across from the car park.
We want all our volunteers to feel welcome and to have an equally positive experience when volunteering with us.
This role will suit you if you are …
• Someone who loves meeting people, are passionate about Cotehele and the surrounding countryside and are keen to share this with our visitors.
• Are able to welcome everyone, playing a positive role in connecting and inspiring all our visitors during their visit to the quay, whatever their interests, background or motivation for visiting.
• Think now and forever by celebrating the history of the quay, countryside and Shamrock, while also understanding how this informs our current and future projects.
• Deliver great service and quality whilst working relatively independently
We welcome those who want to volunteer on a more ad hoc basis as well, you never have to be an expert as training is provided.
Each role has a supportive team to work with and this brings with it a great sense of friendship and belonging.
