Volunteer as a local Literacy Champion
Context
Chat, Play, Read, Camborne Redruth is a National Literacy Trust led campaign that encourages parents and caregivers to chat, play and read to their babies and young children - whenever and wherever they are. We work with local organisations and partners across Camborne and Redruth, joining forces to strengthen the culture of reading across the region.
Parents and carers are the first and most important educators in a child's life. We support caregivers to foster their child's communication skills from the ages of 0-5, preparing them for school and giving them the best possible start in life.
How could you help?
- Help to organise and support local events and activities
- Support our book gifting and help to organise book stock
- Chatting, playing and reading at our local community groups
- Set up 'little libraries' or local book trail activities within the community
- Support our digital content via Facebook
These are just a few suggestions, there are so many ways that Literacy Champions can get involved!
Benefits of becoming involved

The National Literacy Trust recognises that our volunteers offer an extremely credible voice for their community and play a vital role in promoting positive behaviour change and ultimately raising literacy levels. We fully appreciate that our volunteers have additional personal/professional commitments and we are keen to ensure that this role remains completely flexible. We want our volunteers to feel valued, supported and most importantly, to enjoy being a Literacy Champion!
