Care Support Volunteers needed in West Cornwall
Role description & Purpose
Volunteers with either formal or informal care experience offering support to someone in their community as a volunteer. The care needs will not be of an intimate nature and will mostly consist of helping people who are newly discharged from hospital or recovering from other illness or injuries. You may be volunteering alongside an experienced carer or you may be providing respite care for the person’s usual carer.
Location
Cornwall wide service but volunteering within your own area.
Volunteer Tasks and Responsibilities
What you may be asked to do:
We are currently looking at Level 3 and under support which would involve things like:
- Isolation support (welfare support)
- Medicine prompts (simple)
- Making beds
- Eating, drinking & food prep (i.e. Sandwich making)
- Applying cream to non-open wounds
For those of you with specific qualifications and experience we may call on you to support other levels (4) of care if you choose to do them.
Both roles will require the appropriate level of PPE to be supplied by the Health & Care agencies or Local Authority or from own provision.
Volunteer Specification
No experience in care necessary but will be beneficial.
Volunteers should:
- Be able to communicate well with other people
- To be able to understand and maintain confidentiality
- To be able to comply with all Volunteer Cornwall policies in every aspect of the role
We will require two references and a DBS check (Adult Enhanced). If you do not have a current DBS we will arrange this for you.
Time Commitment
Whatever time you can offer. This is a flexible role which can be continued outside of any working hours.
Support and Training
Wellbeing Mentors
All volunteers will be offered the option of a mentor to contact them once they have started so that they can discuss any concerns – either for their own wellbeing or the person they are supporting.
Safeguarding
VC will also be doing follow up calls to both you and the person you are supporting to ensure that you are both safe and happy with the arrangement.If you have any concerns that may need reporting please follow Volunteer Cornwall’s processes.
