Community Larder helper

The Bodmin Way food larder services over 400 members from in and round the town. It provides low cost food to help overcome food insecurity threats bought about by the cost of living and other factors. It also helps to reduce food waste. The larder is primarily supplied by FareShare.

Bodmin Way larder operates for at least 2 days each week, currently Tuesday morning and Thursday tea time.

Staff are supported by a small team of volunteers, who help to prepare and stock the larder for customers, and tidy up afterwards.

They also meet and greet customers, assist them where required in selecting items.

The team is small, so volunteers also help provide cover for staff holiday and sickness absence, to ensure this essential service can remain open to serve its members who may rely on it.

Volunteers in Bodmin Way larder enjoy meeting people and will be cheerful and engaging.

They will be mindful of confidentiality, and be aware of members privacy.

Ideally, they will aware of, or will want to learn about, other key social support services in the local community, and will be confident in helping to signpost members to other sources of help for a wide range of needs.

Volunteers for the larder may be asked to assist in stocking the shelves, freezers etc, and this involves lifting trays of food items from boxes and some reaching to upper and lower shelving.

Training in health and safety and safeguarding will be provided.

Volunteers do not need to have previous experience in food retail, but if you have, this would be very welcome.
