Role description

Events Helper, St Petroc’s Church and Bodmin Way.

We have up to 4 vacancies for volunteers to help out at our busy calendar of events which are mostly held in St Petroc’s Church in Bodmin.

These volunteers will join other existing volunteers to build a brilliant team who can help the events co-ordinator and organisers deliver safe and enjoyable events for everyone in the community who attends.

Lots of the events happen during evenings and weekends, so our volunteers need to be willing to donate their time, including staying until after events have ended and the public have gone home. The upside to this, is you do get to enjoy the concerts and other entertainment without having to pay for a ticket!

Events volunteers will be involved in all or some of the following tasks.

  • Committing to volunteer for at least 4 events each year.
  • Keeping in regular touch with the events coordinator.
  • Setting up or decorating the church as required.
  • Arranging chairs and other equipment under the supervision of the events coordinator.
  • Helping to set up and serve tea coffee and other catering services.
  • Leaving the church building tidy after the event, ready for the next group using the space.
  • Assisting the event coordinator with directing customers and attendees.
  • Providing information about Bodmin Way activities and offering the public ways to become involved or support.
  • As part of a team, having eyes and ears for any health and safety concerns and making sure event organisers are alerted to any potential issues.

Optional training can be provided in First Aid and/or Fire Warden, for which you will receive a certificate.

The annual schedule of events is updated regularly on the Bodmin Way website and social media pages, and culminates in the Christmas Tree Festival in December.

These volunteering opportunities will suit anyone who has confidence in meeting people, or who wants to build confidence. Volunteers must be prepared to give their time and skills under supervision of the co-ordinator and other staff. These opportunities are open to anyone aged 18 and over, including those with previous events experience and those with none.
