VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION
Role title: Youth Club Volunteer
Locations: St Columb Major Youth Club
Reporting to: St Columb Major Youth Club Committee members
Frequency: Week nights and occasional weekends/day times in school holidays
Hours available: Minimum 2 hours
Who we are:
We are St Columb Major Youth Club! We are a charity in St Columb (Charity number: 300605) established in 1969.
We run evening sessions for our junior (for children school year 5 and 6) and senior (school years 7 – 13) members on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
We are looking for volunteers to increase our offer for our local young people. We want to be open on more nights a week for drop ins, to offer more trips and activities, and to extend our opening times during school holidays.
Our committee members have a range of backgrounds, from counsellors to librarians to fire fighters! We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. All that we ask is that you have a passion for working with young people.
The role:
We are looking for volunteers to make a difference to the lives of young people by assisting in facilitating our evening sessions, and occasional weekend/school holiday events and activities for our junior and senior members. We want to use our beautiful building more, to offer more opportunities for our local young people to access a dedicated youth space to come together, to hang out and to have fun. We want to offer a safe, accessible and welcoming environment for all local young people.
We need volunteers who:

Are passionate about working with children and young people.

Can establish positive relationships with children and young people.

Can act as a positive role model.

Are able to chat to and engage with young people.

Can engage young people in games and activities of their choice.

Can maintain appropriate boundaries and support young people to do the same.

Are creative, enthusiastic, confident and resilient.

Will adhere to policies and procedures at all times with particular emphasis on equality and diversity, health and safety and safeguarding.

Activities involved:

To help set up and tidy away activity equipment (e.g. crafts, sports)

To support our committee members or other volunteers in activities.

To encourage children and young people to participate and engage in activities.

To assist running our tuck shop.

To supervise young people in self-directed activities.

To offer a listening and supportive ear when needed.

To assist in facilitating occasional themed nights and events, such as film nights or our post exam disco.
Additional information: You need to complete an application form and an enhanced DBS Check.
We are also interested in people to support our fundraising.
