Role description
Chicken Care (mucking-out, feeding, egg-collecting)

Egg collecting takes place daily but the main day of the week for chicken care is Wednesdays when activities include mucking-out, providing feed and water and the collecting, cleaning and grading of eggs. Chicken care is usually only offered to people who can attend most weeks as it takes a bit of time to train people up. No prior experience needed, full training will be given. Chicken care can be a half day or full day opportunity. Pre-booking is essential for this role so that we can arrange training.

This is a great way to get some relevant experience for your CV or a good way to stay active and fit with gentle exercise if you enjoy working with chickens.

Our half hour morning tea-break at 11am (and our cooked communal lunch from 1-2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays) provide ample opportunity to connect with like-minded people from all walks of life both locally and from elsewhere in the world! Under 18s will need to either come with an adult or contact us in advance to discuss a suitable placement with the necessary parental consents and travel arrangements. Over 18s please get in touch or just turn up at 9:50am ready for a 10am start for a no-commitment trial session.

Please bring along sturdy shoes (walking boots or wellies), weather appropriate hat / layers, keeping arms and legs covered, plus waterproofs just in case!
We have spare supplies of waterproofs and wellies on site but sizes can be limited.

We may have bursaries available for local volunteers to help with travel costs and PPE - please get in touch if needed.
If you are interested in our one-to-one supported cookery placements, please contact us in advance to book some sessions.
