Role description

We are looking for volunteers to nurture the outside spaces at Leach Pottery. We have a history dating back to the founding of the Pottery in 1920 of Japanese influence and our outside spaces reflect that. We are looking for volunteers to bring these spaces back to life with some careful and thoughtful TLC.

About Leach Pottery

Since 1920, the Leach Pottery in St Ives has been a centre of creative exchange, learning and collaboration across cultures and between makers. Today, the Leach Pottery Studio, Museum and Gallery continue developing Bernard Leach's historic legacy, none of which would be possible without our volunteers.

The Leach Pottery is currently undergoing a site-wide transformation project: The Leach Pottery: the next 100 years. The project will repair and conserve the historic buildings and reinterpret the site through new displays and exhibition spaces, significantly enhancing the visitor experience. The production studio facilities will be substantially increased, and we have started to deliver activities to engage our local community in the site's unique story.

You will support the delivery of our National Lottery Heritage Funded programme.

Volunteer Benefits

Volunteering is a great way of developing your knowledge of pottery and the arts, meeting friendly people and making a difference. As a volunteer with us, you can become part of the Cornish Heritage Volunteers Scheme, which offers you free access to a number of Cornwall based arts and heritage locations and National Trust properties. We additionally offer a 20% discount in the Leach Pottery shop and travel expenses where appropriate.

We also offer full and ongoing training alongside quarterly Volunteer creative workshops.
