Cafe Host

Our Help for Heroes cafés usually take place once a month for a couple of hours. Members of the Armed Forces Community and their families can have a chat and a brew, and also meet our team to find out more about the support, services and events we offer. 

We're looking for volunteers to become Café Hosts so that we can bring more members of the Armed Forces Community together to feel connected. 

This Café meets on the first Tuesday of the month 10.30 - 13.30.

Please note this is an unpaid voluntary position.

What you'll be doing

• Arranging a Help for Heroes café in a local community centre, existing café, or other public location.
• Publicising the café in your local area.
• Purchasing refreshments (paid for by Help for Heroes).
• Welcoming members of the Armed Forces Community.
• Chatting with attendees, in a group setting, or one-to-one basis.
• Making tea/coffee and other refreshments, washing up & put away.
• Set-up room, plus pack-down and clean-up afterwards (if required)
• Create a register of attendees and provide feedback.

• Have a genuine interest in, & the desire to make a difference to, the lives of the Armed Forces Community.
• Warm and welcoming. 
• Able to make a good cuppa.
• Great at starting conversations.
• Be a good listener, able to show empathy and understanding.
• Punctual and reliable - a good timekeeper.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Awareness of, and ability to, observe personal and professional boundaries.
• Calmness and ability to deal with unexpected situations.
