Role description
Tuesday Horticulture, Community Food Growing, Gardening & Cooking

On Tuesdays, join a mixed volunteer team of community growers to undertake seasonal tasks in our Market Garden. No previous experience required. You will be shown exactly what to do by our Head Grower Hugh and his Assistant Grower Ross as together you do the next seasonal task in growing sustainable food for the local community without using any chemicals on the land. This might include sowing, planting out, preparing beds, mulching, weeding, watering, supporting plants with structure, keeping the fences and polytunnels clean, tidy and well maintained.

Some people just do a morning activity, others stay all day.

Morning Session: arrive at 9:50am ready for 10am-1pm session

Afternoon session: 2-3pm with a free, nutritious, cooked vegetarian lunch from 1-2pm for any volunteers who stay for both sessions.

This is a great way to get some work experience for your CV and its a good way to stay active and fit with gentle exercise. Our half hour morning tea-break at 11am and our cooked communal lunch from 1-2pm provide ample opportunity to connect with like-minded people from all walks of life both locally and from elsewhere in the world! Under 18s will need to either come with an adult or contact us in advance to discuss a suitable placement with the necessary parental consents and travel arrangements. Over 18s please get in touch or just turn up at 9:50am ready for a 10am start for a no-commitment trial session.

Please bring along sturdy shoes (walking boots or wellies), weather appropriate hat / layers, keeping arms and legs covered, plus waterproofs just in case! We have spare supplies of waterproofs and wellies on site but sizes can be limited.

We may have bursaries available for local volunteers to help with travel costs and PPE - please get in touch if needed.
If you are interested in our one-to-one supported cookery placements, please contact us in advance to book some sessions.
