Sarah Barker Art Studios CIC is an innovative, fully accessible creative hub founded by paint-by-mouth artist Sarah Barker. Our mission is to break down barriers for disabled and non-disabled people to explore, create, and connect through art. We run inclusive workshops, exhibitions, and community events that champion creativity, wellbeing, and empowerment.
🛡️ Role Purpose
The Safeguarding Lead will be the named person responsible for promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults involved in all our activities. You’ll ensure our policies, procedures, and practices meet the highest standards, helping to create a safe, positive environment for everyone.
✨ Key Responsibilities
Lead on safeguarding policy development, implementation, and regular review.
Be the main point of contact for any safeguarding concerns or disclosures.
Offer advice and guidance to staff, volunteers, and session facilitators on safeguarding issues.
Liaise with statutory agencies and other organisations as necessary.
Support safe recruitment practices, including DBS checks and reference processes.
Maintain accurate, confidential records of any concerns or incidents.
Ensure safeguarding training is up-to-date and delivered to the team.
Promote a culture where all participants feel respected, valued, and safe.
🧠 Person Specification
Essential:
Understanding of safeguarding legislation, guidance, and best practice.
Experience working with children, young people, or adults at risk.
Confidence handling sensitive information with discretion.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Desirable:
Previous experience in a safeguarding lead or designated safeguarding officer role.
Knowledge of the arts or community development sector.
Level 3 (or higher) Safeguarding Training (or willingness to complete).
