Role description

You could be the voice of Kidney Research UK in your community! We need more volunteers from Cornwall. If you have a personal connection to kidney health and would like to be part of our nationwide community of volunteers please get in touch.

Join #TeamKidney to drive change for everyone affected by kidney disease.

Become a community ambassador and volunteer your voice and time to raise awareness of kidney disease, promote kidney health and talk about the vital research we fund. This role is flexible to work around your lifestyle.

In this role you could be...

Seeking out local opportunities in your area

What is happening near you? Where can you raise awareness of kidney disease and raise awareness of the ground-breaking research we are spear heading.

Using your story to raise awareness and inspire others

Attend events or meetings (virtual and face to face where appropriate) to talk about your experience of kidney disease and/or kidney health/the work of the charity. Contact your local radio station, local news channels, local magazines, and newspapers, whatever you are comfortable with.

Attending cheque presentations on behalf of Kidney Research UK

Meet with our fundraisers to hear their stories, thank them in person and collect cheques. This may include visiting our charity of the year partners.  

Spreading the word about ways to get involved

Promote our events in your local community. This may include placing leaflets, finding opportunities in local press, or speaking to local businesses about putting in teams for or attending our events.  

Connecting with your local renal unit

Be the connection between Kidney Research UK and your local renal unit helping to ensure that renal unit staff and patients are up to date with news and research opportunities.  This might include delivering their quota of our newsletter magazine, updating noticeboards, or chatting with the renal team.  

Representing Kidney Research UK at patient information days

Attend information days facilitated by patient organisations or patients to man an information stand and represent Kidney Research UK, using your personal experience to raise awareness of our work and the effects of kidney disease.  

We are looking for an individual who:

  • Has experience of kidney disease (either personally or a friend or family member has been affected)
  • Has a keen interest in our work
  • Good communication skills
  • Has good self-motivation
  • Is reliable to accept opportunities when they arise

We will support you by

  • Having regular catch ups with the volunteer programme manager
  • Weekly and monthly video calls with the rest of your team
  • Training to support you in your role
  • Agreed out of pocket expenses such as travel

Kidney disease is growing in the UK at an alarming rate, devastating lives and threatening to overwhelm our NHS.

We will prevent more people from developing kidney disease.

We will protect those living with kidney disease from kidney failure.

In the meantime, we will transform treatments for people with kidney failure.
