Befriender for young person in the care system

We are looking for a befriender (known as an Independent Visitor or IV) for a young people in foster care in Liskeard. An IV is a trusted adult who meets a young person in the care system once a month for a minimum of two years. This monthly visit may include going for a walk, the cinema, on an activity or to watch a sports game, etc, the key is building trust.

Full training, induction and ongoing one to one (and peer) support is provided. We have an eclectic team of volunteers from all backgrounds and experiences who share a passion to help one young person improve their life. We require volunteers who we can match to our young people based on mutual interests, hobbies and personalities. No previous experience necessary.

An IV is someone who listens to the young person and watches them grow and develop. Children in the care system have complex needs and an INDEPENDENT person who gives their time VOLUNTARY is invaluable to them in building up their self esteem, confidence and being a GOLDEN THREAD in learning about relationships.
