Our exciting new early diagnosis programme needs your support. We’re working with local health partners across the UK, to run a yearlong programme of activities to improve early diagnosis. We'll be bringing local communities together to help more people spot bowel cancer symptoms early and increase bowel screening uptake.

This role focuses on the awareness side getting people talking about bowel cancer, feeling better informed, and confident about taking action for their health.

It’s a one‑year role and a great fit for anyone passionate about bowel cancer awareness. A personal connection to the cause is helpful but not required.

What you will be doing

  • Deliver health stands and awareness talks within the local community
  • Answer questions the general public may have on bowel cancer symptoms and screening following guidance set out from Bowel Cancer UK
  • Establish connections with local organisations and community groups, ensuring any contacts are passed to your role manager
  • Ensure information in the local community is relevant and up-to-date and carry out any relevant awareness tasks (such as putting up posters) that will support this work
  • Monitor the progress of your activities and report back to the Early Diagnosis team
  • Work alongside other local volunteers to share ideas, learnings and develop plan for future activity
  • Be able to signpost to Bowel Cancer UK support and services
  • Act as an ambassador for Bowel Cancer UK at a local level, displaying energy, enthusiasm and commitment to our aims

  • Excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills
  • Confident speaking to the general public
  • Ability to confidently carry out your role independently and reliably
  • Enthusiastic and approachable
  • Able to communicate with people from various backgrounds and with different levels of understanding
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and data protection
