Welcome Desk Volunteer
WELCOME DESK VOLUNTEER
Help people feel welcome and find what they need
This role is about being a friendly, visible presence at the front of the building. You’ll be based at the Welcome Desk, offering a first point of contact for visitors and helping them feel comfortable, confident and able to access what’s on in the building and the community.
What you’ll do
On a typical shift you might welcome people as they arrive, answer questions about events, activities and services, support booking enquiries for tickets, room hire or desk space, and signpost people to the right person or organisation. You’ll also help keep the desk tidy, keep information up to date, and collect simple feedback or track enquiries where needed. Tasks will vary depending on what’s happening in the building.
What you need
No formal experience is needed. This role suits someone who is friendly and approachable, enjoys talking to people, is confident working independently and is comfortable using a computer for basic tasks. You’ll be shown how everything works, then trusted to get on with it.
When you’ll volunteer
Most volunteers do one shift per week or fortnight, with the option to do more if you’d like.
Shifts run 9:30 –12:30 or 11:30–3.00.
What you’ll get from it
You’ll be part of a welcoming community space, meet new people and build confidence. You’ll gain communication and front-of-house skills and have access to volunteer perks, including discounts and events, with the opportunity to earn free tickets (capped annually).
Why this role matters
You are the first point of contact for many visitors. You help people feel welcome, find what they need, and connect to what’s happening in the building and wider community.
intoBodmin is a Community Interest Company that owns and manages The Old Library, a beautifully refurbished community building in the heart of Bodmin.
We host creative, cultural and wellbeing-focused activities, programmes and events, both at The Old Library and out in the wider community. Every day is different: upstairs you’ll find offices and co-working spaces, downstairs there’s a café, and in the evenings the building often transforms into a stage and events space.
Our daily programme includes everything from therapy groups, choirs and chair yoga to creative companion groups and other uplifting community activities.
