Community Engagement & Workshop Assistant
As a Community Engagement & Workshop Assistant, you’ll play a key part in growing our Maker Space’s presence and ensuring our sessions run smoothly. You will assist with:
Social Media & Promotion
- Create and schedule engaging posts for platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok to showcase projects, share updates, and attract new participants.
- Share stories of makers and their creations to highlight the impact of our workshops.
- Respond to comments and messages, and help build an online community around our Maker Space.
- Assist in designing flyers, posters, or digital graphics to promote upcoming sessions.
Help during sessions
- Greet participants and help them get started with their projects.
- Assist during sessions by providing guidance on equipment use (laser cutter, 3D printer, router, etc.) or setting up demonstrations for newcomers.
- Ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all attendees.
Other activities could include
- Help organize and staff outreach events (e.g., local fairs, school visits, or pop-up workshops) to raise awareness about our Maker Space.
- Collaborate with local organizations, schools, or businesses to expand our network.
- Share your experiences and the Maker Space’s mission through word-of-mouth, blogs, or local media.
What Training and Support Is Available?
We believe in investing in our volunteers! In exchange for your time and effort, you’ll receive:
- Hands-on training in using our digital tools and software (laser cutter, 3D printer, router, etc.).
Free access to our workshop within normal working hours, allowing you to work on your own projects.
- A supportive community of like-minded individuals passionate about creativity and sustainability.
What Skills Would Be Useful?
No prior experience is required—just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn! Helpful skills include:
- Basic familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc.).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with a diverse range of people.
- Creativity and an eye for design (for social media posts or promotional materials).
- Basic organizational skills to help plan and promote events.
- A passion for making, sustainability, and community-building.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to the role.
How Much Time Do I Need to Invest?
We ask for a minimum commitment of 4–6 hours per month, but the more you can contribute, the greater the impact! Your time could include:
- Attending monthly Maker Space sessions (2nd Saturday of each month, with morning and afternoon slots).
- Spending additional time on social media management, content creation, or outreach.
- Helping at special events or pop-up workshops.

CNC Craft Maker Space is Cornwall’s only open-access digital workshop, where people of all ages and skill levels can learn to use digital tools, collaborate on projects, and create their own designs. We have CNC Milling machines, 3D printers, a laser cutter, a 3D Scanner, and a Digital Embroidery machine, all of which are available to anyone who comes along to a session. We’re a not-for-profit community resource with a strong environmental ethos, dedicated to making our community more self-reliant, sustainable, and creative. By volunteering with us, you’ll help spread the word about our workshops, assist during sessions, and promote the incredible work happening in our space—all while gaining hands-on training and access to our equipment.
