Garden Volunteers
You would be made very welcome in our gardening team. We have 22 acres of land with an amazing range of habitats for birds, reptiles, butterflies, months, and insects. The team have been working hard, cutting gorse and improving the access. The gardening team have planted hundreds of native trees and 16 Cornish variety apple trees in our orchard.
The key habitats on site are the heathland and bare contaminated ground. Abandoned metalliferous mining sites occur throughout Cornwall, making an important contribution to Cornwall's nature-conservation resource. The main activities depend on the season.
We generally meet up on Wednesday mornings at 9am, and sometimes on Sunday mornings. No skills required, we are all volunteers. Tools and PPE are provided and we have a kitchen for tea and coffee. If you can spare just a few days a month, this would make a big difference.
King Edward Mine Museum is a charity, run by nine unpaid Trustees. Most of our income is derived from opening our museum and working mill to the public during the summer. All our guides are volunteers. As we maintain 22 acres of mining landscape, a large number of working mining machines and 6 Grade II Listed buildings, we depend on the enthusiasm of our large number of volunteers who are busy throughout the year, outside and inside.
