Friends of the Royal Cornwall Hospital - Sunrise Centre Refreshment Service

The Friends of RCH has changed over many years, not only with fund raising but also supporting the work of over 460 volunteers who now work from the Treliske site. All volunteers can be easily recognised by their Friends' ID badges on lanyards, tabard aprons or polo - shirts. 

In the early years, The Friends of RCH provided amenities to make patients’ stays in hospital more homelike and comfortable; now they finance grants to enable items of equipment to enhance care in many of the hospital departments as well as supporting public appeals made by the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust.

Over the years they have been extremely fortunate in receiving many generous legacies. Such donations are recorded in a Book of Remembrance, found in the Chapel at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

VOLUNTEERING

If you are looking to make a real difference to people, looking for a new direction, have spare time on your hands or maybe want to gain experience within the Health Service, then there are a variety of volunteering opportunities to suit a wide range of ages 16 + . 

All prospective volunteers will need to attend an informal group interview, undertake a DBS check for safe guarding,  complete an Occupational Health Form and provide two references.

Before commencing volunteering all volunteers need to attend a RCH Trust Induction morning, and will be provided with an identity badge. They will undertake some training and work shadow in an area they would like to work in, where there are vacancies, until confident to work on their own.
