Role description

Volunteering at Dyslexia Cornwall

Why do we need volunteers?

Dyslexia Cornwall would not exist without volunteers. Our volunteers bring a wealth of skills that allows us to do more for people with dyslexia and their families.

The volunteers are a vital link in raising awareness of our work and helps us to develop strong links with communities across the county.

What skills do we need?

Our volunteers bring many talents and skills, all of which are put to good use. All we ask is that you have a willingness to share your time with others and work as a part of a team.

Volunteers can become involved in many different areas of Dyslexia Cornwall’s work. We have a wide range of volunteering opportunities including:

  • Answering queries on our Helpline
  • Advocating for our clients
  • Raising awareness of our services
  • Helping to raise funds

Our aim is to ensure that your time, skills and commitment are used to the benefit of all, and that you enjoy the time you spend with us.

What support will we give you?

Most volunteering roles do not need any special training. We will give you a full induction to your role and our organisation.

Volunteers are not paid for their time. We will reimburse you for legitimate expenses you have incurred such as travel costs.

Who can volunteer?

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. You just need to be over the age of 18.

What is the application process?

To become a volunteer, you will be asked to:

  • Complete an application form
  • Provide the names of two referees
  • Attend an informal interview

We try to match your motivation and expectations to what we need from a volunteer.

If your role involves working with clients, we will also need to carry out a check with the Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) before you can start.

Dyslexia Cornwall no longer has an Advice Centre or office. We are using our limited funding to offer a flexible service across Cornwall.

Please use our email address for all correspondence.
