Peer Mentor (Criminal Justice)
We are inviting women in Cornwall to join our vibrant and ambitious community and train to become Volunteer Mentors, working with women who have experienced the criminal justice system.
You are welcome in our training spaces just as you are, and we strongly encourage women who have their own experiences of the criminal justice system to apply.
The mentoring relationship between the two women is built on trust and empowerment.
Some of the ways our Volunteer Mentors support women:
- Accompanying women to appointments such as job centres or housing
- Helping women access activities such as fitness classes / yoga / swimming or community events
- Accompanying women to court hearings
- Supporting the delivery of peer support groups
- Providing lifts for women to appointments or returning from prison
Training -
- The training is designed to teach women the skills needed to offer emotional and practical support to women who have been in prison and /or on probation.
- We offer a fully funded Accredited OCN Level 2 Qualification in Mentoring.
- The training will involve a mixture of online and in person sessions for 3 hours per week in Cornwall, starting in September (venue to be confirmed).
- We cover topics such as sexual and domestic abuse, trauma and the unique challenges facing women with lived experience in the criminal justice system.
- Our Mentors also have access to regular individual and group supervision / reflective practice and continued professional development opportunities.
