Quiet Connectors for Meet Ups in Redruth
If you consider yourself introverted, sensitive or shy, then we're your people.
Our weekly Meet Ups gently connect quieteers like us in a safe, relaxing space where it's okay to talk and it's okay to be quiet too. Here, you can flourish in your life and career as your true quiet self - and help others do the same.
You can now volunteer as a Quiet Connector at our Meet Up in Redruth on Mondays from 11:30am - 1:30pm at Redruth Community Centre.
We hope to recruit a small team of volunteers to join us in creating a flourishing gathering of quieteers!
About our Quiet Meet Ups
Meeting new people and going to new places as an introverted, shy or sensitive person can feel daunting. So often it feels like we need to try and push ourselves to match the louder, chattier people in the room to be able to form connections and let our voices be heard. But it shouldn’t have to be that way. We believe that there should be more inclusion, fairness and equal opportunities in society for quiet people like us - and our regular Meet Ups are one of the ways that we’re advocating for this change.
We’ve created these safe spaces across Cornwall to help like-minded quiet people to connect in a gentle way, feel more confident and flourish as their true quiet selves. Here, quietness is not only accepted… it’s celebrated! You can find out what to expect from our Meet Ups here.
Your volunteering opportunity
As a Quiet Connector, you will be part of a small team of quieteers leading a Weekly Quiet Meet Up. You will be helping to grow a sense of togetherness, safety and belonging for members attending through providing support, reassurance, encouragement and a listening ear to community members. Your role is important in ensuring that people feel seen, heard, valued and supported. You'll help to increase a sense of connectedness amongst quieteers, improving their wellbeing, and furthering their personal development.
Your role may include the following tasks:
- Opening up the venue and setting up activities before the Meet Up begins
- Welcoming quieteers as they arrive
- Making teas and coffees
- Nurturing relationships with new and existing quieteers
- Providing a listening ear and signposting where appropriate
- Promoting high quality connections between quieteers by starting meaningful conversations and highlighting shared interests and other commonalities
- Contributing to the planning and promotion of your Meet Up through online and offline network
- Maintaining a positive relationship with the venue
- Obtaining feedback from quieteers in your Meet Up
If you're interested in applying but this list feels a little daunting, then we encourage you to have a chat with one of the team about how you can start where you're more comfortable and build up to being able to take on more responsibility - we love supporting people to gently stretch their comfort zones while volunteering with us.
What are we looking for?
We are looking to hear from you if you are a compassionate individual with personal alignment with the Quiet Connections mission and values. You'll be a quieteer yourself, considering yourself to be introverted, sensitive or shy, and you'll personally relate to some of the challenges quiet people may experience.
Your sensitivity, empathy, tactfulness and attention to detail is key in helping to create safe spaces where our quieteers can gently connect and experience a sense of belonging.
You will be reliable and on time, and have the ability to notice the needs of others and take initiative. You will take a 'have a go' attitude and be willing to chat with quieteers one-to-one and in a small group, but it's okay if you feel anxious about stepping into the volunteer role - we're here to support you and provide safe, supported spaces for quieteers like you to learn and grow as you stretch your comfort zone with us.
It's important that you have an awareness of personal boundaries and the limits of your own capabilities and role. You must be willing to ask for support where needed and undertake training and self-directed learning where necessary.
Practical considerations
- Travel expenses will be covered within reason.
- Quiet Connectors will need to complete relevant training so you must be willing and able to develop and attend training days.
- Please let us know which area you're interested in when you respond.
