Volunteer in our Community Shop and Coffee Shop

Grampound Village Store is a community-run, not-for-profit convenience store and coffee shop in the heart of Grampound. The store has been serving the community since it officially opened in November 2014, with this year seeing us celebrating our 10-year anniversary. 

Our community shop seems to be going from strength to strength, which is down to the tremendous effort and commitment from our current team of volunteers. We’re looking for more volunteers to help, especially in the Coffee Shop; as with the summer months nearing we’re anticipating being busy. We have a volunteering force to be reckoned with, in a place where community spirit is kept alive by residents of all ages serving their community. More than 25 volunteers man both the shop and coffee shop, with an average of 42 customer-facing hours worked each week. Without them, the village would not have a shop and we’d lose a vital service for so many.

Could you spare a couple of hours a week to help us? Shifts are typically 2 hours long, although we can be flexible if you'd like to be here longer. Full training is provided (as well as a cuppa!), and you can work alongside somebody else until you feel you've seen how it all works. We’d particularly like to fill our Coffee Shop rota- our menu is deliberately easy to grasp and the coffee machine is very easy to use; or perhaps you’re a keen baker who could spare some time baking cakes in our kitchen, or even someone who just loves to clean. A typical shift includes making hot drinks, making sandwiches and toasties fresh to order and cooking bacon/other breakfast items.

Likewise, the till is very easy to use in the shop area, and typical tasks include date-checking, serving customers and putting deliveries away. No experience is necessary, we just ask that you are trustworthy and presentable, with a willing, helpful manner who enjoys interacting with people. Volunteering with us may suit anyone who wants to connect with people, anyone with a strong sense of community or someone who needs to gain retail/hospitality experience to enhance their CV.
